FARE MUSICA E' PER RICCHI (o quasi)

La musica è sempre piu' un hobby di lusso.

Oggi come oggi ci sono tantissime band metal e non solo, che fanno dischi, tour, video piu' o meno professionali, il tutto generalmente con una buone dose anche di online marketing.

In genere si usa studi che comunque si fanno pagare, videomaker che comunque si fanno pagare, agenzie di booking e/o marketing che spesso si fanno pagare, e cosi via.

Per arrivare poi ai famosi "tour", con cui in teoria si dovrebbe fare soldi, ma che spesso sono a rimessa, o nel migliore dei casi ci si va in pari.

A vederli sembrano tutti professionisti che lo fanno per vivere!

Allora mi domando io: se mettiamo tutto insieme, per uno disco nuovo, fra registrazioni, produzione, promozione e "tour" ci vogliono svariate migliaia di euro. Diciamo 20.000 per fare cifra tonda e piuttosto di base. 20.000 euro che non rivedrai mai, perchè non è un investimento, ma solo una spesa di lusso per una passione.

Quindi, a mio avviso, ormai il fare dischi/tour, per bands piccole e anche medie, e' diventato un hobby di lusso. Non considerando un'altra cosa, che e' averci il tempo a disposizione, oltre ai soldi.

Nella mia esperienza, di solito queste persone, sono persone che non hanno bisogno di lavorare, o hanno bisogno di una piccolissima entrata economica mensile o annuale.

Ne ho conosciuti diversi, e in genere, o abitano con i genitori tutta la vita, cosi da evitare spese di affitto o mutuo, o hanno un compagno/a che li supporta, cosi da avere tutto il tempo libero da dedicare, senza preoccuparsi di dover sbarcare il lunario per mantenere loro stessi o addirittura una famiglia.

Poi c'è una serie di bands o artisti che invece non hanno queste risorse e quindi fanno quello che possono con mezzi piu' miseri, e senza un'esposizione mediatica come gli altri, proprio perchè gli manca soldi e tempo.

La conclusione è che ci ritroviamo con un sacco di bands che ci vengono propinate su tutta internet non per merito artistico, ma solo perchè hanno uno "stile di vita" che gli permette di farsi notare. E come conseguenza di questo, c'è una totale assefuazione dell'ascoltatore medio, a ritenere ottima musica quello che viene proposto in questo modo.

Con tutto questo, di sicuro è bene che chi ha mezzi, possa fare quello che gli piace. I soldi e il tempo sono di ognuno di noi, e ognuno ci fa quello che gli pare. Quello che non mi piace è che purtroppo sia dato molto spazio (live, internet, etc...) a chi PAGA, e chi non puo' spendere migliaia di euro, non venga neanche preso in cosiderazione. Altra cosa che non mi piace, è l'immagine che queste bands vogliono far passare, come grandi professionisti del settore. Ma ditelo che non ci guadagnate niente o quasi dai dischi/tour. Che è una rimessa, ma vi da soddisfazione. 

Nessuno parla mai dei SOLDI dietro queste cose. Bene, la realtà è che per il 90% delle bands metal i soldi non ci sono. Quindi è tutta rimessa. Qualcuno ci andrà in pari con le spese, ma di sicuro non ci fa uno stipendio.

Se hanno bisogno, possono fare gli insegnanti di musica,  ma anche quello, non è molto sicuro se vuoi camparci e  se non hai le spalle coperte da qualcuno.

So che queste cose potranno far suscitare rabbia in qualcuno degli addetti ai lavori, ma questa è la verità!

Per quello dico che ormai fare musica è diventato un bene di lusso. Come un hobby costoso. Come comprare macchine sportive per passione. Col risultato pero' che alla fine, non rimane niente. Con questo modo di fare musica, non ci saranno mai i nuovi Iron Maiden o i nuovi Metallica.

Music is increasingly a luxury hobby.

Nowadays there are many metal bands and not only that make more or less professional records, tours, videos, all generally with a good dose of online marketing too.

In general, studios are used that still charge, video makers that still charge, booking and/or marketing agencies that often charge, and so on.

To then get to the famous "tours", with which in theory you should make money, but which are often remittances, or at best you break even.

To see them, they all look like professionals who do it for a living!

So I ask myself: if we put everything together, for a new record, between recordings, production, promotion and "tour" it takes several thousand euros. Let's say 20,000 to make a round and rather basic number. 20,000 euros that you will never see again, because it is not an investment, but only a luxury expense for a passion.

So, in my opinion, by now making records/tours, for small and even medium bands, has become a luxury hobby. Not considering one other thing, which is having the time on our hands, as well as the money.

In my experience, these people are usually people who don't need to work, or who need a very small monthly or annual income.

I've met several, and generally, either they live with their parents all their lives, so as to avoid rent or mortgage expenses, or they have a partner who supports them, so as to have all their free time to devote, without worrying about having to make ends meet to support themselves or even a family.

Then there is a series of bands or artists who don't have these resources and therefore do what they can with poorer means, and without media exposure like the others, precisely because they lack money and time.

The bottom line is that we end up with a lot of bands that are being fed all over the internet not for artistic merit, but just because they have a "lifestyle" that allows them to get noticed. And as a consequence of this, there is a total addiction of the average listener to consider what is offered in this way excellent music.

With all this, it is certainly a good thing that those who have the means can do what they like. Money and time belong to each of us, and everyone does what they like with us. What I don't like is that unfortunately a lot of space (live, internet, etc...) is given to those who PAY, and those who cannot spend thousands of euros, are not even taken into consideration. Another thing I don't like is the image that these bands want to convey as great professionals in the sector. But tell it that you don't earn anything or almost nothing from the records/tours. Which is a remittance, but it gives you satisfaction.

No one ever talks about the MONEY behind these things. Well, the reality is that 90% of metal bands have no money. So it's all back. Someone will make up for the expenses, but they certainly don't make a salary.

If they need to, they can be music teachers, but even that, it's not really sure if you want to make a living and if you don't have someone's back.

I know these things may anger some insiders, but this is the truth!

That's why I say that making music has now become a luxury item. Like an expensive hobby. How to buy sports cars for passion. With the result, however, that in the end, nothing remains. With this way of making music, there will never be a new Iron Maiden or a new Metallica.
